Survey Methodology

An extensive research & groundwork was carried out for approximately 2 months. A survey of more than 1000 schools & across 6 zones of Delhi was conducted, namely:

  1. North
  2. South West
  3. West
  4. South East
  5. East
  6. Central

The survey’s second milestone was to finalize a list of interview respondents who would primarily be responsible for shaping the whole survey. We shortlisted the respondents in the following categories:

  • Students
  • School Teachers
  • Alumni
  • Aspiring Parents
  • Experienced Parents

Now let us discuss the survey in details. The survey was categorized into the following modules:

  • MODULE 1: Exhaustive List of School for Conducting the Survey

  • MODULE 2: Collection of Factual Data

  • MODULE 3: Collection of Perceptual Data

  • MODULE 4: Final Analysis & Ranking Of Schools

MODULE 1: Exhaustive List of School for Conducting the Survey

An exhaustive list of schools was made using a secondary research methodology from sources like the internet, magazines, newspapers, previous surveys etc. Only CBSE approved schools were considered & a comprehensive discussion with the industry experts helped us narrow down the school list. Also, only schools which had been in existence for at least 3 years in Delhi were considered.

Every year, there is a surge of 5-7% recognized schools & a lot of unrecognized schools in Delhi, so it was a bit tough to get each & every school in our list but additions & deletions of schools were made during the survey if any respondent mentioned it.

MODULE 2: Collection of Factual Data

A factual data questionnaire was prepared and sent across to more than 500 schools from our list. The schools were rigorously followed up on the telephone.

The questionnaire had questions around the following areas:

  • Basic school information like Establishment Year, Board Affiliation, Highest Class in the school etc.
  • Details of the Infrastructure, Extra Curricular & Facilities like Cultural, Sports, Medical etc.
  • Teacher Qualification, Experience & Other Credentials.
  • School’s Global Exposure & Student Exchange Programs.
  • Awards won by the school.
  • School’s potential to network.

MODULE 3: Collection of Perceptual Data

Our respondents namely students, school teachers, alumni, aspiring parents & experienced parents were provided with a perception questionnaire. Each respondent was asked to rate & rank only those schools that they were aware of. This ensured that the authenticity & sanity of the survey was maintained.

The respondents were given a maximum of 25 schools each to rate which ensured that neither the respondent nor the interviewer fatigued. Along with a list of schools, the respondents were also given a list of parameters to rate these schools on a scale of 1-10, where 1 is the lowest and 10 is the highest. The parameters were decided basis multiple discussions with industry experts, school teachers & inputs from our previous surveys.

Note: The questionnaire was designed in such a way that both the factual & perceptual respondents; i.e the schools & other stakeholders were exposed to the same set of parameters. This was done to ensure that the scores of all the stakeholders could be combined to reach a final ranking of the school.

MODULE 4: Final Analysis & Ranking Of Schools

2 types of scores are calculated and collated to reach the final score of the school, namely:

  • Perceptual Score
  • Factual Score

Perceptual Score: A regression model was used to calculate the importance of each parameter & distribute the weight of the score accordingly. An overall score was calculated for each school using importance weightages.

Factual Score: A similar approach was followed and an overall score was calculated basis the inputs received from the schools via the factual questionnaire.

Final Score: The final score of the schools is a weighted average of the Perceptual & the Factual Score. Equal weight is given to both the weights

Note: There are 1700 private schools in Delhi & not all the schools participated in the survey. The schools which participated in the survey were considered first for the calculation of perceptual data & the schools which didn’t participate were considered later & assigned an average factual score.

This brings us to the end of the survey. Now let’s have a look at how the schools were categorized basis final rankings.

School Categories Basis Final Rankings

  • Leaders
  • Challengers

Leaders: Schools which have had at least 5 pass-out years of XII standard & received the highest final score on factual and perceptual data.

Challengers: The schools which received a good overall score but did not make it to the top 10 of the list. Some of the schools could be in existence for less than 5 years.

That was all from our end. Hope you enjoyed.

    1. It’s always hard to compare 2 good schools from different locations. Anyway, keeping in mind academic results, extra curricular, co-curricular, brand, parent reviews, fee I would say Apeejay has an upper hand!

    1. You should go for Apeejay. Yes Montfort has its bit of advantages in terms of fee, extra curricular. But overall winner will be Apeejay.

    1. Harry, It’s always tough to compare schools across regions (Central & South in this case). Anyway, strong suggestion would be to go with DPS Mathura Road with respect to Co-curricular, extra curricular, personal development. Academics are comparable.

    1. HI Mahak, The school belonged to the same management as of VIS Dwarka and VGS Rohini but now is operated by a different management. The school is doing good in the Dwarka market. High Fee structure and open donation at the school are the 2 issues which I feel is spoiling the culture at school. If you speak about academic, infrastructure, co and extra curricular: very good exposure and opportunities at the school. Definitely amongst top 5 schools of West Delhi at present.
