GURGAON: Detailed School Specific Admission Process

HERITAGE XPERIENTIAL LEARNING SCHOOL, CRPF Rd, near Rajesh Pilot Chowk, Sector 62, Gurugram, Haryana 122005:

  • Heritage is purely on the basis of the distance of your home from school. So, it’s purely on luck as selection happens through a draw. Also, it is one of the last schools to conduct the admission process per my observations for the past 4-5 years.
  • At the time when we applied for my daughter’s admission, those who lived in a 2 km radius were given automatic admission. Rest all were selected through a draw. The lucky draw was done in front of the parents.

KUNSKAPSSKOLAN, 1122 A-42 Behind DT Mega Mall, Block A, DLF Phase 1, Sector 28, Gurugram, Haryana 122022

  • Interaction with parents & the child (To ensure you understand the academic and development approach that the school follows, and to ensure that an informed decision can be made about the admission.
  • Kuns – has an application plus interview-based selection. They tend to come out with 2-3 lists so not so bad.

LOTUS VALLEY INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, Nirvana Rd, Behind North Close, Block M, South City II, Sector 50, Gurugram, Haryana 122018

  • There was an interaction that happened yesterday and the offer came after 2 hours. We were asked to collect the admission form today and admission fees to be submitted along with the filled-in form and documents by 7.
  • 5-6 parents together on a zoom call for interaction and the principal asked about parents and what they feel about their child is special. That’s it, a total of 25 mins for all 6 couples. Nothing specific. They validated what answers were provided by parents in the form of some parents.
  • Yes, distance is one of their main criteria. Someone (whose child is in LVIS) told me that 50% of kids in this school come from nearby society.

MANAV RACHNA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, Block F, Greenwood City, Sector 46, Gurugram, Haryana 122001

  • Yesterday we had an interaction at Manav Rachna Sec 46. Parents were intimated about the online link by MRIS earlier. They asked the kid to rhyme, to colour, the colour of his clothes, they also asked about various objects. Then they asked us our professional background and basic parenting questions, nothing much the teachers were polite.
  • We were a bit jittery before the interaction but it was easygoing. They made us feel very comfortable. Hope this will help other parents.

SCOTTISH HIGH INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, Block G, Sushant Lok 2, Sector 57, Gurugram, Haryana 122011

  • Scottish is first come first serve. Also, The interaction was a 15-minute affair. There were two ladies from their admissions department who were on the video call and there was a third individual without a video on, and with even the mic on mute (perhaps he/she was an observer). They first asked us to show the original birth certificate of the child, then our original Aadhaar cards and the PAN cards. This was followed by some generic questions/interaction with the child on which toys she plays with, does she love making friends, would she like to go to school and play etc. etc. We were told at the end of the call itself that we would be receiving the offer of admission mail in the evening. Some other parents, who received the mail eventually, were not told so in the video interaction itself. Hope that helps.

SHIKSHANTAR SCHOOL, Block J, South City I, Sector 41, Gurugram, Haryana 122001

  • It would just be a school tour, presentation, QnA session. There is no parent or child screening at any stage.
  • Once we apply, they call us for a school tour followed by a presentation and then queries from parents. Then the admissions are transparent through the draw of the lot system. In front of all the parents. No hassle. No judging kids. We just finished the school tour today!
  • For admission, we need to bring the child along: No
  • ONLY FOR LATE ADMISSION EXPERIENCE: We enrolled our son for late admission. We paid for the form as every school does and we were given a certain date for the school tour and the lucky draw was to be done for late admissions. On reaching the school I realised that there was a fee attached to the tour of the school. I think it was 2000+ and the parents who paid the fees to tour the school, only their children names were selected for the lucky draw. So here was the catch.. nowhere during the filing up the late form we were told that those only who will attend the school tour their children would be considered for admission. Luckily we went and our Son got through the admissions but I still feel bad for the parents who filled in the forms online and paid but never visited the school, their children names were not even considered for the lucky draw. So parents if only u will visit the school then only there are chances of admission otherwise no.
  • We visited the school today only. You have to pay 2000 as a processing fee. After that, the school tour begins. It’s a 30 hr overall visit including a school tour & interaction. In the interaction session, u can ask whatever concern u have regarding school. Also, u can bring ur child if u wish. I have gone there with my kid.

SHIV NADAR SCHOOL, Pahari Road, Block E, DLF Phase 1, Sector 26A, Gurugram, Haryana 122011

  • They ask about your involvement with the kid, how you spend time and what you do to make him learn new things. How we contribute to society and general family background. Also what do you see your kid doing in the next 5 years. It was hardly a 10 to 15 min interaction. Further basis interview students are shortlisted for the lottery.
  • We went for the interview two years ago. Their form is very elaborate, so I’m guessing they already know a lot before meeting you. I think the interview is more about meeting the actual people behind what’s written in the form. It was a pleasant experience.
  • We had the interview last year. The questions were around the background, how we manage given we are both working parents, which preschool my son goes to, questions on how we tackle situations of conflict etc with our child and other such general questions to gauge parenting style
  • Grade 1 will have a written test + interview. Only nursery admission has a lottery process.
  • Shiv Nadar has a detailed application form that entails several open-ended questions, based on which the first round of profiling and screening is done by the school, followed by an interview and another round of shortlisting and finally the lottery.
  • You will receive an email from the school once u submit the form (this is an automated message) and then a day later u should receive another email stating that your registration is complete .. also u don’t need to submit any documents at the school right now … just keep them all handy in case u get selected for the interview.
  • Shiv Nadar allows a full refund of the admission fee till a certain date.

SUNCITY SCHOOL, Sector 54, Suncity, Township, Gurugram, Haryana 122002

  • There was no shortlisting process. We just got an email that admission has been granted and asked us to come to school (Both Parents). In the school, they shared a questionnaire for both father and mother separately. Questions were “”what is your vision for your kid”” “”how you impart values to your kid”” “”how do you tackle your kid in different situations”” etc. After submitting the Questionnaire, Fees was paid. Fees can be paid by DD or by Debit/Credit Card (with an Additional 2.5 surcharge).
  • Detailed questions as shared by other parents: What will you do if the child lies, refuses to do homework, talks back, etc. What values are important to you and how do you inculcate them at home? What kind of activities do you do with your kid? How much time does the child spend with grandparents? What’s the role of grandparents in a child’s life? How do you spend time as a family? What values would you need the school to focus on?”

THE SHRI RAM SCHOOL, Aravali, Hamilton Court, Behind, DLF City, DLF Phase IV, Gurugram, Haryana 1220021)

  • You just need to fill a form and an essay online and names are published on the website after few days.
  • They allow full refund till March next year.
  • Admission Season 2015-16: You will be given points basis the answers provided 4. there is a basic 55 points that you need to score even to qualify for the lucky draw. 5. then a lucky draw.
